Jon Gomm is a British guitarist and singer-songwriter from Lancashire whose 2011 performance of "Passionflower" became one of the most shared guitar videos in internet history, accumulating over 20 million views and introducing fingerstyle guitar to a vast new audience.
What sets Gomm apart is not just technical virtuosity but his ability to channel deep emotion through extreme extended techniques. He detuning strings mid-performance, slaps and taps the guitar body as percussion, plays harmonics with one hand while fretting with the other, and layers these elements into arrangements that feel impossibly complete for a solo performer.
His debut album Hypontised (2012) was critically acclaimed and demonstrated that his studio work could match the electricity of his live performances. The Secret Nobody Keeps (2018) further established him as one of the most original voices in contemporary acoustic music.
Gomm studied at Leeds College of Music and has spent years touring relentlessly as a solo artist. He is known for his intimate connection with audiences and his belief that the guitar, when pushed to its limits, can say everything that needs to be said. His influence on a new generation of percussive fingerstyle players continues to grow.
